Given my sudden uproot to the big apple, decision to trust time warner with installing internet in my apartment and overall recent occupation with the real world, I’ve been quite absent from this blog. I’ve missed it through and through and cannot WAIT to talk about all the culture I’ve encountered during my leave of absence. There is just SO much music I want to share with you all! However, as I previously noted in another post, Tumblr only allows one mp3 upload per day and since I’m no computer hacking whiz, we’re going to have to settle on one. I haven’t forgotten about the other 7 Metronomy songs from The English Riviera I promised but that is just going to have to wait. I’m just too excited about my recent discoveries to even begin blabbering about the greatest band ever to walk this Earth (which I continually do day-to-day amongst coworkers and others I meet in life). Honestly I haven’t even decided which one I’m going to upload today (it’s that tough).
I have a personal DJ that plays for me (who shall remain unnamed until further notice, but for now let’s just call him DJ Boyfriend). After perusing the music blogs (aka The Hype Machine) trying to learn a bit more about an electronic music act called Light Year I ended up with more music than I bargained for. For me, shopping around for new music on the internet is the same as visiting the grocery store: more often than not I end up with 3x as many items I originally planned on getting. So I found out a number of things about Light Year as well as indie remix producers RAC, who just came out with their first original track. It’s called “Hollywood” and it features Penguin Prison on vocals. Take a listen here. Be sure to check out PP at the Governors Ball next month on Randall’s Island in NYC. The bill also features Passion Pit, Beck, Modest Mouse, Chromeo and many more. Best part about this festival: no overlapping sets! Unfortunately, a performance intensive that I signed up for DOES overlap and I won’t be able to attend. So sad.

Back to Light Year! My sudden interest in these guys were sparked by their appearance on the upcoming HARD Summer Lineup. Previously, I’d only downloaded one track by them (recommended by DJ Boyfriend), a track you’ve heard if you saw Mr. Oizo, Soulwax, Erol Alkan or Tiga during their earlier 2011 tours. That track is called Sex Education, and you can take a listen here. Two weeks ago the duo dropped Moderation on us. Check it out here. What a track. It combines a heavy bass with echoing vocals and draws inspiration from the sub-genre “minimal”. It seems that a lot of (what I like to call) “high-end” DJ’s are getting into this type of music. Smart move, Light Year. Work it.
If the remix that I’m posting doesn’t impress you then I don’t know what will!
